Useful Tricks
A top tip is to fully exploit the hotel's position right at Xunlimen Metro interchange. This is your access to all three of Wuhan's "towns." You can take Line 2 directly to see the historic buildings on the Bund in Hankou, or stay on it to cross the Yangtze River and visit the famous Yellow Crane Tower and Wuchang district. Line 1 (the elevated line) gives a fun ride with scenery above city streets. Buy a "Wuhan Tong" transit card for easy, tap-and-go travel on all metro lines and buses.
For a good meal with a view, use the hotel’s revolving restaurant (if open) for the views but use the surrounding streets for the food. A short walk from the hotel are some of Wuhan’s most famous culinary streets. A must-try local experience is “guozao” (having breakfast out). Walk to a nearby stall and try the city’s most famous dish, “re gan mian” (hot dry noodles), which is a delicious and cheap local staple. The nearby Hankou Shuita Food Street is also a fantastic place to explore in the evening.
Get a feel of the city’s history by walking from Hankou Bund up to Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street. It is an easy ten-minute walk from your hotel to Jianghan Road. Spend the evening walking the whole length of the street, checking out old buildings with European architectural styles, ending up at the riverside. The view of the illuminated Bund and modern highrises of Wuchang across the Yangtze River is spectacular and indeed a fantastic free-of-charge evening activity.
At last, although the hotel's facilities are older, working out at the fitness center and sitting in the sauna is a great way to refresh energy after a long day of walking. Since it is an old established business hotel, these areas remain big most of the time and not crowded compared to new properties. Using the sauna to relax before heading out for the evening can be a great perk. Also always request a room on a high floor for the best city views and to be furthest away from any potential street noise.
